Confirmation Programme

Our Confirmation Programme usually begins a few weeks (or so) after Christmas. Typically we have eight or nine sessions, and they take place on Saturday afternoons before the evening Mass.

What do we look at?

The main topics are:

  • Signs and Symbols
  • The Holy Spirit
  • The Creed
  • Conscience and Choices
  • The Bible
  • Prayer
  • The Mass

We will, of course, give more details of dates etc. in good time for the beginning of the next programme.

What is Confirmation?

This is what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says: “Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the ‘sacraments of Christian initiation,’ whose unity must be safeguarded ... the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For ‘by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.’ ” - Catechism of the Catholic Church (Section 1285)

... and ...

“Confirmation, like every Sacrament, is not a work of human beings, but of God, in which He takes care of our lives to mold us in the image of his Son, to make us able to love like Him.” - Pope Francis
